SUMMARY:Free! Adaptive Hockey For All Skaters With Developmental or Physical Challenges\, Oakland
DESCRIPTION:The Oakland Ice Center operated by Sharks Ice is offering a Special Hockey program that is open to all skaters with developmental or physical challenges who would like to participate in hockey. With support and encouragement our program is adapted to the level of the ability of our participants. \nEmphasizing fun\, safety\, and team spirit\, the Special Hockey program helps to improve balance and coordination which promotes an “I can do it” attitude that carries over into other aspects of the participant’s life. With the assistance of volunteers\, skaters develop skills\, make new friends\, and experience a new found freedom and sense of accomplishment. We offer participants the opportunity to take gear home as part of their participation in one of our hockey programs with a signed Rental Agreement. \nFor ages 6 and up with some prior skating experience. \nIf you are interested in your child joining this class please email the Hockey Manager. Our team practices on Friday evenings from 6:00 – 7:00 PM.

Oaktoberfest celebrates the history\, the flavors\, and the people of the Bay Area. Oakland’s Dimond District hosts this one-of-a-kind Fall Festival (combining Oktoberfest with Oakland)\, welcoming thousands with craft beer & food\, entertainment\, arts\, and ecology. Oaktoberfest is an event designed not only to celebrate the proud history of a shining district in Oakland\, but also to raise funds for improvement projects\, community development programs\, and future events. \nHabitot will be located in the parking lot adjacent to the Dimond Branch of the Oakland Public Library\, at 3265 Fruitvale Ave\, Oakland\, CA 94602. This location is AC Transit accessible and offers easy freeway access\, for those traveling across the East Bay. \nHabitot Children’s Museum is a 26-year old nonprofit children’s discovery museum serving families throughout East Bay! This event is FREE to attend. If you would like to support Habitot’s free events\, a suggested donation of $20 per family helps ensure access for lower income families. \nPre-registration for each timeslot helps us plan for staffing and supplies. Register for a SINGLE FAMILY GROUP (any combination of children and adults in the same household) for just ONE time slot (1 hour and fifteen minute) to allow as many families as possible to attend our event. \nPlease do not participate in our event if you or your family members are ill. We encourage wearing masks because COVID-19 is still circulating\, although they are not required at this time. \nWhat to Expect!\nFun\, interactive activity stations for small hands and bodies!\nRocket & Vehicle Launcher\nLaunch your handmade rocket 15ft into the sky with a hand-cranked air pressure contraption. New for 2025\, use the same hand-cranked air pressure contraption to launch a vehicle down a 10 ft track! \nRocket Building & Tinkering\nDesign\, build\, and decorate a rocket from recycled materials. Test how it high it launches in the new rocket launcher. Decide if your make-and-keep needs anything added to it or taken away. A fun design activity! \n\nWaterWorks\nPlaying with water is a learning opportunity! Explore boats\, funnels\, buckets\, and streams to learn about the properties of water\, and just have fun! \n\nBoat Making & Tinkering\nDesign\, build\, and decorate a boat from recycled materials. Test how it floats and sails in the water table. Decide if your make-and-keep boat needs anything added to it or taken away. A fun design activity! \nArt\, STEM\, and Making Stations\nCreate art and engage in maker activities with a wide range of materials that encourage “process” and not “product” learning. STEM experiments also help children learn basic science and math concepts. \nPaintable Wall\nImagine an entire mural created by children on our giant paintable wall. We use nontoxic washable paint which is a great starting point for young toddler artists! \nBall Run\nDesign your very own ball run with endless combinations of tubes\, gutters\, and more on our giant magnetic wall! \n\nImagination Playground Blocks\nBuild a fort\, ball ramps\, or anything you can imagine with Imagination Playground’s big foam blocks. This is a great activity for making new friends as you build together. \n\nBaby Ball Pit\nJust for the littlest ones — a waterless pool filled with multi-colored plastic balls. Lots of giggles.
