Sunday, September 14, 2025 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
FreeAbout Vilma’s Cutz for Kids:
Vilma’s Cutz for Kids is a program offering free haircuts and styling for individuals age 5-18 with special needs. Attendees have the opportunity to engage with experienced barbers and hairstylists who understand their difficulties and can provide a comforting and inclusive environment that caters to their sensory sensitivities. Parents and caregivers are also given the chance to connect with other families and share their experiences in a supportive community setting. Activities like arts and crafts, sensory play stations, and relaxation areas are available to ensure that children and teenagers feel comfortable and safe.
Created in 2023 by Serena Arvayo of A Friend Like Zeek, in partnership with Autism with DJ, Sensor E, Spirited Play Labs, Mocha Autism Network, and the Center for Urban Excellence, this initiative aims to foster community awareness, promote acceptance, and positively impact the lives of attendees and their families, celebrating each person’s unique needs and strengths.
Before signing up for Vilma’s Cutz for Kids, please note:
-This event is specifically designed for individuals with special needs. Regrettably, complimentary haircuts and stylings are not available for neurotypical individuals.
-Parents and caregivers need to register each child individually, specifying the child’s age, disability, necessary accommodations, and preferred haircut or style. A list of haircuts and styles will be provided for parents and caregivers to select from.
-There are only 25 available spaces for attendees. Once spaces have been filled, participants will be added to a waitlist and will be contacted if space becomes available.
-After registering, parents and caregivers will receive an email that includes the appointment time for their child, as well as further details.
-This event is free to attend. Donations are welcome and tips for barbers and hairstylists are appreciated.
